Chiropractors/Protruding Disc

Question
I have a protruding disc in the L5/S1 and is pinching my nerve.  Will chiropractic services or acupuncture help?  I had PT and am now starting to feel tightness and soreness again.

Thank You.

Answer
Hello Nicolle,

Chiropractic can help if the protruding disc is from mild to moderate in nature.  This depends on the measurement of the disc bulge!  If you have muscle weakness or severe pain that limits your daily activities you will want to see a orthopedic surgeon.  Acupuncture can help with the pain caused by the irritated disc.  If your disc has actually prolapsed (material has extruded from the disc) the material from the disc will be absorbed by the body, this will take several months.  You may want to have a exam by a doctor of chiropractic to see if they can help.

Hope all goes well!
