Chiropractors/bone spur in the hip

Question
Can a chiropractor help you if you have a small bone spur in your hip?  If so what can he/she do to help the horrible pain that limits walking?

Answer
Joann,

First, a bony spur does not go away. Also, the spur may not be the source of pain. Many people have bone spurs and no pain, and some have no spurs and lots of pain.  A chiropractor that has expertise in doing soft tissue therapies may be able to help with hip pain. Paramount is a quality physical examination by the chiropractor, making sure that you are safe to work on, and then a short course of care to see if it helps.  In my experience, people with hip pain that may be related to osteoarthritic conditions (where bone spurs often are part of the condition) should experience some relief with the combinations of therapeutic ultrasound, deep soft tissue mobilization, and joint manipulation. Postural and ergonomic factors should be addressed by your chiropractor as well.  So the bottom line is that a spur is one thing and pain is another.
'Hope this helps.
