Chiropractors/tongue numbness

I recommend you see your MD and be evaluated for Bell's Palsy, which can cause trigeminal nerve symptoms (change in sensation on the face and tongue) as well as the more common presentation of facial nerve symptoms such as one side of your mouth drooping, inability to raise your eyebrow, and change in taste perception. Bell's palsy can be caused by a viral infection, among other things. Lyme disease can also cause facial nerve palsies. Please see your MD right away to be evaluated.

Trigeminal symptoms can be triggered by a common virus that causes cold sores- herpes simplex. If an outbreak follows closely after symptoms, suspect it is the virus, which lays dormant in the nerve root and flares up during periods of stress, illness or sometimes, exposure to ultraviolet radiation (strong sunlight. Herpes virus is also responsible for a condition called shingles. If you've had chicken pox, it's possible that the numbness can be shingles, even if no skin eruptions occur. Post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) is pain that lingers after a herpes infection. None of these conditions are serious, i.e., life threatening, but they can be scary and annoying.

I have similar issues and have had since Aug. '08. Numbness in whole tongue and both lips and roof of mouth; can't taste anything on top of my tongue. Been through all the tests and many doctors.  It has been discovered that I have Lyme Disease - now "Chronic Lyme".  I have tested negative for Lyme 6 times.  I am improving with other symptoms since starting treatment in June '09.

I wish you well on your quest.  Get to a Lyme Literate Doctor ASAP!  Go check out

With love,

Carol Pauley

When I was a child, in the 50s, my mother experienced a sensation in her tongue, which her MD was unable to diagnose.  She consulted the first edition of the Reader's Digest home medical guide, found out about Vitamin B, started taking some, and the problem vanished.

Not everything is lyme. I get so sick of seeing everything referred to lyme disease.
