Chiropractors/idiopathic scoliosis

Question
Recently a chiropractor told a friend that he could completely correct her childhood, idiopathic scoliosis.  Is this true?

Answer
Kathie,

This is absolutely not true.  Nobody can completely correct an idiopathic scoliosis.  Tell that chiropractor he or she is completely off base by making such an assertion.  There are no quality studies that show idiopathic scoliosis can be corrected by chiropractic or any other physical medicine discipline.  Anyone urging a parent to have their scoliotic child treated for the scoliosis is akin to a "snake-oil" salesman.  This doesn't mean that a scoliotic child doesn't deserve to get chiropractic treatment for the aches or pains associated with scoliosis.  That's different.
