Question
My husband suffered a back injury a few years ago.  He is now experiencing lower stomach problems. I heard there are nerves that wrap around the stomach area from the back. Is this true?  If so could a chiropractic quickly determine if his pain is stemming from back related problems?

Answer
Hello Simone,

Yes the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spinal nerves innervate the digestive system.  The lumbar and sacral nerves innervate the lower GI tract/Large Intestine.  It is very common with injuries of the lower spine to have Gastrointestinal complaints.  A thorough chiropractic examination should determine the cause of the stomach problems.
