Question
Hello, Since August 20, 2007 the top link (with my nail in it) of my right thumb has been numb. I am in my school band class and i first noticed that my thumb was numb after we played some songs. I have been playing the alto saxophone for 4 years and i have never had a numb thumb before. At first i fugured it would go away, but it is five days later and the numbness is still there. I would like to know what is causeing the numbness and what should i do to correct it.

Answer
Hi Stephanie,

A numb thumb usually has half of the index finger numb with it if it is a pinched nerve. Since only the tip of your thumb is numb, I would see a neurologist, DC or someone you trust to look at it. It may even be early diabetes, without personally examination you I can't tell exactly what the problem is. Finding someone that can reproduce it and make it ease up will know the cause.
