Question
My upper back and ribs are really hurting me.. They have been hurting for 3-4 months now. I have tried a new mattress, a massage, everything and it is not going away. I am 19 but I really don't want to go to the doctor for them to tell me its just muscles. What else can it be? I had my gull bladder checked a few years ago and nothing came about it

Answer
Dear Kiley,

I have no idea what the problem is...a repot of pain is only a symptom.  Without a more detailed history of the pain, how it started, the exact location, what activities make it worse, what helps the pain, etc... it is very difficult to give any opinion.

There are many possibilities to what may be causing the problem:  muscle spasms, poor posture, functional restrictions in the fascial system, joint fixation, even things such as infection or tumor can be possibilities although remote.  This is most likely a musculoskeletal issue rather than a systemic problem like infection, but the history and examination process is the only way to truly get an accurate account of what may be the original and ongoing source.

3-4 four months is way too long to let this go.  Please do some research in your area, ask family and friends as well, and find a good chiropractic physician to address this problem.  Chiropractors deal with these types of problems all the time, and we will not just send you home saying it is in the muscle and that their is nothing to do to help.  We are experts in muscular and joint dysfunction, and are the choice of doctors when it comes to these issues.  Go get the examination, Good Luck Kiley.

Respectfully,
