Chiropractors/When is it tomuch?

Question
Very quickly-My lower spine is crooked and my neck is over compensating by going the other way.  I am seeing a chiropractor who suggest that I get adjusted 3x a week for 6 weeks then to 2x for 6 week and then once a week with a second set of x-rays in the middle.  Is this common or is it to much?

Answer
Trish,

Yes! It's too much.  How can the chiropractor know in advance you need 3x/week for 6 weeks of care and then know that you need another 6 weeks of care without first determining if you will even respond to care in the first place? And, care to accomplish what?  This is an outdated treatment paradigm.  Your condition should be treated and monitored, with tools to measure your progress that are accepted in the industry.  What is the goal of your care?  Pain relief? Straightening your crooked spine?  There is no evidence to support a lengthy program to straighten your spine.  Pain relief at some level should be achieved within a few weeks for most people.  There is often very little reason to x-ray and re-x-ray someone's spine.  Only those who have severe conditions or are spine-injured require such lengthy and frequent care.

'Good luck,
