Choosing Alternative Therapies/holistic approaches to addiction recovery

Question
Hi Meg,

I am an addiction counselor and educator.  In several weeks I will be presenting a day-long workshop on holistic approaches to substance abuse recovery.  I was wondering if you might know of any specific resources that address holistic methods in treating addictions - books, websites, journals, etc.  I'm looking to include information regarding any and every possible method and technique that might be out there.

I appreciate any help you can provide!

Thanks,
Peter

Answer
Peter,

I think the holistic approaches that have evidence behind them included guided imagery, acupuncture, hypnosis, authentic movement, somatic psychotherapy, drama therapy, expressive arts therapy, nutraceutical support / nutritional counseling.

One of the more edgy approaches would be Ibogaine treatment, but you'd have to go to Amsterdam  or Paris for that.
