Question
hello, my name is shane carman and even though i am still young, (13)  i have begun looking at collage info.  i have an interest in screen writing and would love to be a screenwriter.  i know there a quite a few collage programs for screen writing but because of my circumstances it can be challenging to look.  i have some learning difficulties and i am foreign language exempt.  my grades are pretty good.( current averages for my classes are between 86-100).  i would like to know what schools offer programs on screen writing and what programs would be good for me.  i also live in western NY so i am far from "movie town LA"  i know there are a lot of programs but some are not considered good.  thank you for taking the time to help me,

Shane

Answer
Shane,

Glad to hear that you are starting to look for the right college for your needs. The good thing is that because you are starting early, you have plenty of time to find those schools that match your needs.

I generally do not recommend particular programs on this site because there is a lot more to consider to find the right college. For some of the things to consider, take a look at this page on my website. http://www.collegeadmissionspartners.com/resources/info-to-know/

Once you have some idea of what you are looking for in a college, beside a major, check out the College Navigator site. Their web page is http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/

On this site you can put in the criteria of what you are looking at for college. On the left side of the college navigator page you can look at particular programs including screenwriting. This is a relatively specific major so there are not a lot of colleges with this major. The other option is to look at a creative writing program which will be more common and give you more options for college.

Once you have found some colleges that match what you are looking for you should then look at the colleges websites to see what resources they might have for someone with your learning disability.

I hope that gets you started on the fun process of searching for the right college for you.
