Choosing the Right College/SAT Score

Question
Dear Mr Johnson,
I have done the SATs Test Three times and I'm still ranging between 1200-1250. Is there any colleges that I can be accepted in with a score of 1250 at this point in time?

Answer
Kristina,

There are many colleges that would be happy to accept a student with a 1200-1250 SAT. You don't say whether that is for all three parts of the exam or just the reading and math sections. If that score is for just two sections you will have more options than if it for all three but either way their are options.

If your test score is for all three sections you may wish to look at a community college to start with since many of those are open admissions which means they accept everyone who applies. This does not mean that they will provide a poor education, just that they are not difficult to gain admissions. The other option is to look at those colleges that are test optional. You can find a list of those colleges at this website.

If your test score is just for the reading and math sections you have many more options because many colleges, including some selective ones, will accept a student with such test scores. You can go to the College Navigator site at http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/ to find colleges that meet your criteria for a college including information on their average test scores.

Either way, with the thousands of colleges we have in this country, there is a college for everyone, regardless of who they are or what their test scores might be.

Good luck.
