Choosing the Right College/Can you suggest a college?

Question
I'm having trouble selecting a college.  In the future, I want to be a news anchor or reporter.  I was wondering about what TEXAS schools have good RTVF (Radio/Television/Film) programs.  Hopefully, I'll be able to go to a college where I there are internship opportunities available even to Freshmen and Sophomores who are good workers.  Thank you for any help you can give me; it really means a lot!

Answer
Hi Kelsey,

I would start at the larger schools, UT and A & M, and go from there.

You will probably find that many places have something to offer in this field. I encourage you to look for schools that have good internship programs off-campus, in addition to campus-based radio, TV, etc.

Try to find a place too where you can pick up good classes in public speaking and liberal arts. The more things you can talk about knowledgeably, the more markatable you'll be down the road. A narrow and more technical curriculum might limit you at some point.

If you get to thinking about leaving your area, we have two good programs here in Upsate NY; Ithaca College and the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. The latter is considered one of the very best anywhere.

Work hard and get a good, broad-based education to go with your specialty, and you can go far.
