Choosing the Right College/College Choice

Question
Hi,
My daughter is a senior in High School and is trying to decide where to go to college. She is thinking about architecture or maybe computer graphics. She loves geometry and she is very creative and artistic. We live in Ashland, Kentucky and would prefer to find a Christian college as close to home as possible. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Lani,

Thank you for writing. I don't have any particular suggestions but I can give you some help to try and find the right college. The potential problem I see with your request is that architecture and computer graphics both tend to be found more in larger public colleges. Obviously, that will give an environment very different than a Christian college.

To start you can go to the web site for the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.  http://www.cccu.org/

This will allow you to search for Christian colleges by state. Go to the tab for Members and Affiliates at the top of the page. You can then look to see which are close to your location that have majors in something that might be of interest to your daughter.

The other option is to go to a general site like College Navigator.

http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/

On the left hand side put in your zip code and then a distance from your zip to look at colleges. Select program majors to include what you daughter may be interested in. You can then review this list to see if there are any colleges that might have more of a Christian approach to their education.

I hope that helps.
