Question
I live in Tx., am interested in pre-med, I rank 1/619 in sophomore class, hope to get a scholarship, what schools are best to apply to outside of Tx., I'm interested in Baylor, Waco, on a Speech/Debate scholarship. I want someplace cooler than Houston.

Answer
Jarrod,

You are obviously a strong student and will have many options on where you might want to apply. You should start by making a list of the things you want from a college. You already know that you want a college that does well at placing students into medical school. You also know you want to be someplace north of Texas. You can look at this page on my website that discusses some of the issues to consider in finding the best college for your needs.  http://www.collegeadmissionspartners.com/resources/info-to-know/

Once you have some idea of what you want from a college, then you can look at a web site like College Navigator. http://nces.ed.gov/COLLEGENAVIGATOR/   That web site allows you to put all of your criteria into a search engine and find colleges that fit your needs.

After that you need to understand how college financial aid works. Start with this page. http://www.collegeadmissionspartners.com/resources/info-to-know/financial-aid-ba...
Most financial aid comes from the colleges themselves and it is much more important to choose the right college based on how they handle financial aid than to worry about outside scholarships.

Those simple steps will get you started in finding the right college for you.
