Question my son is entering his senior year. He is very interested in science, primarily metallurgy. Ultimately he would like to become an expert medieval armor and weapons maker. What should he major in? I would assume metallurgy, but am having trouble finding schools to offer it.
Answer Hi Sara,
This will be a tricky thing to find. It seems to me that there is a college in Vermont that might have this, but I've looked and can't seem to find it.
Since your son's pursuit involves both history and technology, I suggest looking for a community/tech college where he could learn the craft of metalwork and check avenues that will allow him to have a broader historic awareness of the time period his work will represent. In addition, I would identify a person or orgnaization that is involved in the kind of work your son would like to do, and make a contact there as to how to get into the field. Most people like to talk about what they do.
