Choosing the Right College/state tuition

Question
If I move to new york and marry my girlfriend there that is a long time resident there, do I automatically qualify for in state tuition rates there and how would I go about being accepted for that?

Answer
It would be nice if it were that easy.  In most cases, you must live in a state for at least a year and pay taxes, have a driver's license, and be a resident with an apartment or house in your name.  However, tuition rules change all the time so it is best to contact the school yo would like to attend and ask what is required to get in state tuition.
