Question
hi!
i am in a sophomore ElP student about to enter IB and i am strong in all my courses except math. I am in clubs, I'm and an officer in my school SGA, editor of the school newspaper,GSA, in the national arts honor society and thinking about joining more.If I leave IB i will be forced to go to a high school with a bad reputation. My plan is to study journalism and public relations in college but i don't know if i should leave IB and take advance classes (except math) at another school. i already have all my necessary credits i just have to take the English HSA Please help me in deciding what i should do.

Answer
Breana,

Congratulations on being a strong, involved student. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to tell you what to do in this situation. Ideally, you should talk to a counselor at your high school as they will know the situation the best.

Colleges look very favorably on the IB program, particularly if you get a diploma. However, many schools with an IB program allow students to take some IB classes and some regular classes. Doing so will not end in an IB diploma. If your high school allows this I would suggest that taking a full IB load except for math may be an option. Another option, if your school does not allow you out of a full IB program, would be to get tutoring in math. Colleges understand that not everyone is good in every subject, math in particular.

If the other high school you would attend is not strong, then ideally you would stay where you are. Go talk to your counselor immediately to get their input and to see if some of these other options might work for you.

Good luck.
