Question
I was wondering if it would be okay to submit my essay to you to ask for pointers for improvement, not a spell check or grammatical editing. If not, please advise me of some general recommendations for my essay. I try very hard to not sound too trite, but writer's block takes over me whenever I sit down to write!

My suggestions to students struggling with their personal statement is to forget about the writing. First of all, think of what you want the admissions committee to know about you. Then think of a story in your life that exemplifies that characteristic. Imagine you're telling the story to your aunt or your grandmother - type as you imagine yourself telling the story. That's how to get a first draft!
There are lots of good books about writing essays - look in your school or public library, or in your bookstore.
Don't worry about being clever or a Nobel Prize winning author - be yourself. That's who the admissions people want to know.

My bachelor's degree is in Math Education. My master's degree is in Counseling. My PhD is in Educational Research and Evaluation.

I was selected and participated in the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management and was supported by a Bush Fellowship for this program. The Duluth Chamber of Commerce selected me as a Leadership Duluth participant.
