Choosing the Right College/College

Question
I am looking for a college on the east coast that has a good program that would enable me to become a social studies teacher. Also it would be fantastic if they were reasonably priced. It would be a bonus if it is a Christian or Lutheran college.

Answer
Early in the process, don't focus too much on price as financial aid typically lowers the sticker price quite a bit.

Some Colleges to check out:

Houghton (NY)
Eastern University (PA)
Gordon College (MA)
Grove City (PA)

If you have a state in mind for your teaching career, check to see which states have certification reciprocity with that state. NY, for example, has pretty much automatic reciprocity with 30+ other states.

Your college cirriculum in secondary ed will be crowded (few electives), so you may want to pick up some college credit in high school, if you can, to create some flexibility. Courses like Intro to Psych or Sociology, English Comp, language, art or music history often work well.

Hope this helps.
