Choosing the Right College/AAS in Hospitality Management

Question
Hi Susie, I am seriously considering an A.A.S degree in Hospitality Management, but I am not sure if it's worth pursuing or if the industry standard is to get a B.A. See I am from Spain so studying at a US university or college is a huge investment for an international student like me, as there is no financial aid available for us.

I've been checking out some community colleges' sites but I am not sure if the reputation of Community colleges is well received in the hospitality field or if I should go with a State University or larger institution. I definitely cannot afford Cornell.

I know it's a complicated question and I appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you very much in advance.

Gina

Answer
Many people in the hospitality industry get an associates degree from a community college and begin working in the industry right away.  I realize that a 4 year degree is expensive.  Most people in the hospitality industry start out in front desk jobs and work their way up to more important positions.  The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado hires many international young people to do internships for a year.  You might contact their human resources individual and inquire as to their requirements and also how they would advise you in terms of your educational preparation.
