Question
Hello, Me and my family are now immigrating to U.S.. I am from the Philippines. I just graduated in high school here in the Philippines and I'm only 16 years. old. If I study in the U.S., am i going to start in college or am i going to finish their high school year? Thank you for your kind consideration and understanding. :)

P.S.-> Sorry for my poor English grammar.

Answer
Hi Stennie,

Best wishes on your move.  You sound positive about your new adventure and opportunities.  Congratulations.

I suspect that as a 16 year old, you'll likely attend high school in the United States.  Few 16 year old teens, no matter how academically advanced they may be, attend college.  It's likely that the local high school where you move(by the way, where are you moving to in the US?) will evaluate your academic history and recommend the proper placement, grade 11 or grade 12 and advise you on courses to take to prepare you for college.  I understand that you're concerned about your English grammar, so that's one area where you can improve.

The college/university system in the US is much different from systems in other parts of the world.  Many of the families we work with have immigrated and the parents therefore were educated outside the US.  The system can be confusing so don't shy away from getting help.

Let me know where you're moving to.  Helping students and families like yours is our business.

Best,
Valerie
