Choosing the Right College/I'm Lost

Question
Well I am about to enter my last yr of high school and i'm COMPLETELY lost. My choices for furture careers are:

Singer
Ob/Gyn
Psychiatrist

I live in GA and I want to go to college either in GA or TX. But i really want to stay in GA b/c i lot of opportunities as far as singing is concerned has come up. So right now I"m stuck on what colleges to look at and what kind of programs and what I should be looking at in a college.

Those ^^ are my three choices for career plans. I know that I could have a connection for UGA as far as singing is concerned. And I know that Kennesaw is another option for singing.

And I know colleges such as Emory and Mercer are good in GA 4 pre-med. And colleges such as Baylor, Rice, and UT are good for pre-med in TX.

I have a 3.6 in high school right now. All Honors and AP(one last yr and I'm taking 3 this yr) courses since my 10th grade yr. I haven't done any kind of volunteering due to personal issues. And in my eyes I think I''m pretty much screwed for college.

So I'm asking what steps do I take now as far as getting in/ choosing a college??

Answer
Kiana,

First, don't worry about what kind of doctor you might want to be. People change their minds all of the time in medical school and that is fine. You don't have to commit before med school and in fact they often discourage students from doing so.

Also, medical schools don't care what you major in as long as you take the required courses for medical school. This varies from med school to med school but typically includes chemistry through organic chemistry, a year of physics, a year of biology and math through college calculus. Music majors often do very well in medical school admissions as long as they have taken those courses.

To find a college appropriate for you, I would recommend that you look at the College Navigator website. http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/

That site allows you to search for colleges based on location, major, average test scores and that sort of thing. Determine what you want from a college and then search for the options on the website.

There is an appropriate college for every student and you will find one for you.
