Choosing the Right College/Science Colleges?

QuestionSo I'm a freshman in highschool and my mom told me in 8th grade to start applying for scholarships. I already know that I want to majour in science in college but I really don't know what colleges are good for that. I'm in Maryland and my mom told me that I'm not going out of state to college unless I get a scholarship, so I'm pretty much restricted on that part. I'd ask my school consoler about it but they told me they'd start talking more about this kind of stuff in about 11th grade and I don't want to wait that long. Do you have any colleges in mind that science and mathematics (and possibly music) and important majors/minors.
AnswerAlmost every college has science, math and music majors.
Most reputable colleges offer need-based financial aid. If you need a scholarship, you get one, after you are admitted. A few colleges, and a few organizations offer merit-based scholarships, whether or not you have need.
Most merit-based scholarships are restricted. For example, your local Knights of Columbus chapter may offer a $500 scholarship to a student of Italian descent, a college may offer you a tennis scholarship, or the local Rotary Club may offer a scholarship to a Boy Scout who has achieved the rank of Eagle. Many merit-based scholarships require you to write an essay.
Beware of fake scholarships. Never, NEVER apply for a scholarship that charges an application fee or processing fee. These are scams.
There are many websites that list merit scholarships, but watch out for scams! And remember that all reputable 4-year colleges and universities offer need-based scholarships. Almost all reputable 4-year colleges and universities will meet 100% of demonstrated financial need.
I suggest you visit a few college financial aid websites to learn more.
