Hi Susie,
I'm a high school junior who is considering taking a gap year after my graduation, mainly to travel and volunteer. I've some interest in foreign languages, culture, and psychology. What do I need to know about gap year and requesting deferment before I make my decision?

Hi Lynn,
Before you submit college applications, you should contact the schools you are applying to and talk with someone in admissions about a gap year.  Explain that it is something you are considering and wondered if you could defer your attendance for a year.  Most schools are very understanding, but not all schools are receptive.
