Choosing the Right College/Choosing a college

Question
Hi,

I'm a junior and I'm thinking about college. I want to be a graphic designer, or doing something in the arts field or computer field. My GPA is usually around 3.7 to 3.8, but I am only taking one honors class at the moment. I don't have many ECs, but I have been in orchestra for six years now.

I have a preference towards smaller schools. I don't think I'd ever be accepted into a highly selective college. My parents don't want me to go to a community college. Also, would it be better to take some art classes in high school? I took graphic design for one semester and journalism for a year, but not general art classes.

Answer
If you enjoy art classes, then by all means take a few of them before your graduate.  There are some good smaller colleges that offer majors in graphic design.  Continue your participation in the orchestra and look for some leadership position.  You might also get involved in a few community service projects that you can pursue through your senior year.  If you feel up to the challenge, consider taking an AP class or two your senior year.  Write down what is important to you in a college experience and begin researching schools that fit your criteria.
