About Jake Lanier Expertise I am more than willing to answer questions about colleges and college life in general. Also, questions having to do with how to go about choosing a college that`s right for you.
Experience I'm currently a college student and recently went through this experience. I gained a lot of knowledge of how to do this properly.
Question Hi, this is going to be pretty long, so I advise you to take a deep breath but please don't give up on me.
I'm in my last year of college, majoring in computer science. Only now do I wake up to the fact that I am not in the least bit interested in programming, which is getting me stressed out because I do not intend on starting out my career life (after graduation) and working in a field that I dislike.
The problem is that I still don't know what field I'm interested in. All I know is that I had excellent grades when I studied Maths (plus I really enjoy studying it); so I'm guessing I should have majored in one of the sub-fields of Engineering.
I don't mind studying for a few more years, for the sake of not having to drag myself to work everday. But this time I plan on attending a university in the united states; but with all the expenses that I'd be paying I would atleast have to be certain with what it is I really want.
So what I need is, to study some other major which I can preferably, in some way, blend in with computer science; so I won't feel like I wasted four years of my life on nothing.
Any suggestions ?
I also wanted to know if "Networking" is demanded in the career world.
I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you.
Answer Sarah,
Many apologies for the delay of my response. First off, very few people know what they truly want to do. I myself chose a major that I wasn't truly interested in, so it's okay to still be unsure. If you do know what you want, go after it. You might pursue math with statistics and combine that with computer science and you could be very marketable when you graduate. Or even economics, and you could be building forecast models. Get out there and meet people because networking is huge. It's how people get jobs 90% of the time. Good luck in your search. Let me know if you have any other questions.
