About Jake Lanier Expertise I am more than willing to answer questions about colleges and college life in general. Also, questions having to do with how to go about choosing a college that`s right for you.
Experience I'm currently a college student and recently went through this experience. I gained a lot of knowledge of how to do this properly.
Question A year and a half ago, I was doing some research on colleges on the online college info sites. As I recall, there were two or three
good sites with a fair amount of information. I'm now trying to do similar research again, and I didn't remember the names of the
sites. I found them easily with Google: collegeboard.com, princetonreview.com, petersons.com. However, I specifically recall that I
had found one of these types of sites to have independent review information about what the colleges were like, what their
reputation for quality was, and so on. None of the sites I find now have any info whatsoever on what the colleges are actually like.
I believe there was a site "embark.com" that apparently has been folded into princetonreview.com. I seem to recall that that one had
some unique features, so that might be the one I'm thinking of. However, princetonreview.com does not seem to have any of
embark.com's features at all. Do you have any idea how I might be able to find some source of info on what any number of
different colleges are actually like? I really have no idea for many of them, and it is impossible to get a real sense of even basic levels
of quality just from the numerical data that all these sites seem only to have now. I recall that I was able to get a pretty good sense
of everything I needed to know when I was doing this before, and I can't tell much of anything now. This is actually catastrophic
since I have no other sources of info and now really do need to figure out where I should try to go to school, possibly very
quickly (although it is probably already too late this year for most of the ones that would be good for me: I'm only interested in
studying film, so there really aren't many colleges to choose from, apparently). Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any help, info,
or tips on where I could access information. Thanks very much for your time.
Answer Christopher,
Sorry about how long it took to reply, been having some e-mail problems. I can understand your frustration in the college search process. I generally refer people to www.princetonreview.com and have found them to be the best service. I suggest them because I know they actually poll students at those colleges and ask their comments as well, so I feel it is genuine. Try searching by college on that site, I think you'll find a decent amount of info. In the way of film majors I would suggest some of the CA schools, such as UCLA and USC. They have exceptional film schools. Also try visiting individual college web sites. I hope this information helps out. Good luck in your search.
