Question
Are there any books or web sites you found especially helpful in trying to select a college? I'm interested in something with the student's needs in mind, not the parent's.  My daughter is a junior and starting to think about what she is looking for and trying to decide what features to think about in a college that would suit her.

Answer
Eileen,
My personal favorite web site is www.review.com.  It gives you a lot of detailed information on colleges including a section of what students have to say about their own college.  Also, there is a little program called Counselor-o-matic, which allows you to input information about yourself in the way of GPA, classes you're taking, etc., and it selects schools that you may have an easy chance, moderate chance, or difficult chance of getting into.  Also my favorite book was one called Student's guide to colleges.  This is written by college students and gives you an insider's view at many colleges.  I also suggest US News & World Report's Guide to Colleges that comes out annually.  If I may give one important tip in the college search.  Try and visit every college that your daughter is interested in.  That was the most helpful for me.  Good luck.  I hope this information helps and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
