About Holly Expertise I can help you determine what kind of college would be best for you if you are having trouble deciding. I have knowledge of many of the schools in this country, as well as a good sense of what type of school fits what personality. If you tell me about yourself, what you do for fun, how you like to study, how important you rank academics, and other information like that, I can help you decide what kind of school would be best for you.
Experience I am a current college student. I am absolutely enthralled with my school, and I had many choices to pick from, and feel that I made the best choice for me. I have some friends who have transferred to different schools after their freshman year, and I know and understand some of the pitfalls of being happy at different types of schools.

Question Hi,
I am choosing between 3 colleges right now...
Penn State (university park)
Grove City College
Pacific Lutheran University
At Penn State-I get a 75% discount
At Grove City-I will be with people that have the same faith as me
At Pacific Lutheran University-I can do extensive chinese studies there.
My goal-to go to college and get a degree in 2 or more of theses areas-communications, broadcasting, education, extercise science, sports nutrition, chinese languague, history and political science. That is alot I know, but I will narrow it down as I go through college. I want to either film history documentaries or be a teacher. My personality is very happy kid but I can be serios when it comes to academics.
The disadvantages of these colleges...
P.S.-I am afraid of a lack of christian faith there
GCC-they don't have a very good film department
PLU-It is really far away plus more expensive
I don't mind large places, as long as I can excape them. PS and GCC would be about the same price (10,000 per year) and PLU would be 25-30 thousand.
Any advice?
Christine
Answer Hi Christine,
My first question is who is paying for college? If your parents are paying, can they afford and do they mind the price differences? If you will get financial aid, do you think the actual amount for you to pay at PLU will be much higher than the others still, or will you probably get enough aid to cover the difference? These are important questions because they help tell whether or not the money is an important factor.
As far as PLU goes, you need to determine how important the price is (never let price get in the way if you can help it - first and foremost decide where you can be happy and see if you can make it work financially); but more importantly you need to decide if you want the distance or not. You haven't said much about the distance, so I don't know what to tell, except these are things you should keep in mind.
As far as your concerns about faith; it is hard for me to say, but I think that wherever you go, you will find a group of people that have the same faith as you. While it will be larger at some places, for instance, at Grove City, you shouldn't be afraid of going somewhere where your faith is not dominant. Of course, Christian beliefs honestly are dominant in many places, and while PS is not an affiliated school, I would be pretty confident in guessing that you will find enough Christians there to be comfortable while at the same time interacting with people of other faiths. Nonetheless, I'm sure many of your classmates there would be Christian, whether or not they joined Christian groups, and I am sure that there would be strong Christian groups at a school that large. I would not suggest going to a school that doesn't have teh academics you want simply because more people will be of your faith, but that is a question you need to think about and balance on your own. I can only say that from my experience Christianity is very big on campus in many non-affiliated schools and that it probably wouldn't be a problem anywhere you go (i.e., you shouldn't be AFRAID of it anywhere, although there are places where you might be concerned.)
Well that's mostly what I have to say...
Good luck,
Holly
