Choosing the Right College/college choice
Expert: Bruce - 11/21/2006
QuestionThank you for your suggestions. I am the parent of a high school senior who is looking for a small, liberal arts college with a good geography departmtent that has an empahasis in human geography. Location is not important and career is not a factor as he may well change his mind before he graduates.
Thanks,
Kevin

How would I find a ranked list of all the human geography departments in colleges in the US?
Thanks for your time,

Kevin,
Sorry for the delayed reply. I've been away for a few days.
A couple of clarifying questions:
are you interested in colleges in a particular part of the coutry? Would you prefer a larger or smaller school? Are you looking at this major with a particular career in mind?
If you can get back to me, I'll be glad to suggest some schools to you.
In the mean time, I did a quick search of Rugg's Recommendations and based on that suggest the University of Texas and Clark University in Mass as good places to start.

AnswerOne of the challenges you're possibly finding is that your child's program of interest is fairly particular right now, and so mostly found with specificity at larger schools. Still, I uncovered a few more you might want to take a look at:
Sarah Lawrence (NY)
Middlebury (VT)
Macalaster (MN)
Bridgewater St (MASS)
Bucknell (PA)
U of Minnesota-Duluth
Trinity (TX)
SUNY Geneseo (the top rated NY public college, has a liberal arts college feel to it; 30 miles south of Rochester)
Hope this helps.
