Question
QUESTION: hi bruce, can you tell me anything about devry university?  do you recommend going there to get a business degree?  im currently attending and taking some general courses.  ive heard a lot of mixed opinions about the school.  can you please tell me anything u know? i dont want to waste 21000 when im not gonna get a good education.

ANSWER: Nick,

I actually worked at  DeVry school, quite a few years ago.

My perception is that a DeVry degree is going to be very current and practically oriented; you may spend less time taking non-bus classes there than you would at a traditional college. You may also finish your program and get out in the work world sooner. Is this what you are looking for - or do you want a more typical college experience?

QUESTION: thanks bruce,
yes that type of learning is fine with me, i understand its an accelerated program but im wondering will i have a fair chance of getting a job since it is a school a lot of companies say devry is a fake college.  i want to make sure i wont be stuck with a degree that i wont be able to use and get a job.

Answer
I can tell you that DeVry is not a fake college. It may not look like other schools in terms of campus setting, etc., but the DeVry schools have been around for a long time.

As for job placement, see what kinds of stats DeVry keeps on that. Generally speaking, for profit schools work hard at the placement effort - they have to to keep their skeptics at bay. You could also call a few HR officers in your area and ask them what they think.

You may also want to ask DeVry how their grads do getting into MBA programs, if that is an interest of yours.
