Christian Music/The Number Song?

Question
Hi,
I am trying to find the lyrics to a song I think was called "The Number Song" that was in a little red chorus book from 1965-1978. I do remember part of the verses and the chorus.

One is for the wondrous land in which we live,
to the old red, white and blue loyalty we give.

Chorus:
Songs may come, songs may go, happiness they bring...but the song that gives you strength is good for you to sing.

Three is for the wisemen, following the star (I don't know the rest of that verse).

Any help will be deeply appreciated. This song hold special memories to me and my sister.

Thanks,
Lisa

Answer
Many times we recall songs that are a combination of more than one song. This happens especially when we sing a chourus of songs at church. So This may be the case. I did a net search of the lyrics you provided and came up with http://www.heraldmag.org/olb/contents/devotions/Dawning.pdf Song Number 13 "BYSC". I admit this is not your song but the chorus fits your posting verbatum. I have a feeling the hymnal your song is published in was specially amended for that edition. Being Lutheran I can tell you numerous songs in our hymnal share the same chourus but the verses are waaay different especially those songs written by Luther himself.

Sorry this doesn't help, I suggest contacting your church and talking with someone who has attended since that time. Many times while researching things I've discovered old ladies, like my grandma, seem to have a photographic memory. I assume it comes from years of remembering everyones birthday..My Grandad, who is 78, still can't recall mine...lol Good Luck!
