I am writing in regard to getting started. I have read a little on this particular "approach" to God but I am not sure how to get started. Another thing I am curious about is CM's approach to scriptures, as well as does CM view the Apocrypha? Thank you
Answer Hi Chris,
The approach is simple, develop a relationship with God. Made Him your best friend. Talk with Him often and sit quietly in His presence. Spend as much time as you can in prayer and the Bible. There is no easy route to any relationship, it takes time, determination, and love. No one can teach you these.
Christian mysticism is based upon the inspiration and infallibility of the Scriptures. It's general approach to Scripture is to read it devotionally. Madam Guyon's book A Short and Easy Method of Prayer is one of the best introductions to this method of Scripture reading. It will also get you started on your way. You can get it online for free at the website below: http://www.ccel.org/ccel/guyon/prayer.html
There is no particular view of all mystics towards the Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical books. If you are Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox your accept them, if you are Protestant you do not accept them as equal with the canonical works. Anglicans and Old Catholics tend to view them as good for devotion but not for doctrine. This is kind of a middle ground view, which I myself hold.
Thanks for writing and feel free to contact me through my website. You can also listen to my new audio commentary on the Gospel of John that I just started. http://www.MysticSecretsoftheBible.com
