Christian Mysticism/Body Soul and Spirit

Question
QUESTION: Reverend,I wish to ask what is the difference between Body Soul and Spirit?

ANSWER: Hi Stanislas,

There are my opinions, but I am not sure there is an agreed upon definition.

This is my take on it. I believe that man is made of two basic substances, one spiritual and the other material. The body is the material and the soul and spirit are the non-material or spiritual.

Hebrews says that the word of God can divide spirit and soul, indicating a distinction. This distinction I see as function not sunstance. The souls is what we have in common with the animals and basically speaks of the emotions. The spirit, then, would deal with intellect (reason) and intution - those elements that are unique to man.

There other opinions, but I think this fits the Biblical data best.

Thanks for the question.

QUESTION: Thanks.Reverend for the answer.I have another question. What about the difference between the heart of a man and his mind?Waiting to read from you.

Answer
Dear Stanislas,

Again this is only my opinion. I see the heart as the will or moral center of man. Good and evil come from our choices, our will.

The mind is the intellect or reason.

This is why Jesus said love God will all your heart (will), with all your mind, and with all your soul (emotions).

I hope that helps.
