Question
Hi Jay,

Could you tell me about ecstacy? What is it, what is it like, is it a spontaneous thing that happens to people, is there a particular way or ways of bringing about the experience, etc.

Answer
HI Greg,

Ecstasy is any feeling of intense joy or delight.  In Christianity it refers to rapture associated with mystic or prophetic exaltation. It is an overwhelming feeling associated with the experience of God's presence.

Evelyn Underhill, an expert on mysticism, has written extensively on the subject. Below is a link to the chapter on ectasy and rapture.

Thank you for your question.
