Christianity -- Christian Living - lust/adultry and masturbation

Expert: Evangelist Matthew Starrs - 11/29/2008

Question
Firstly I would like to say I come from a christian background, tho I do not think chosing one type of church is correct because it is the "true" one, I currently am known to lutheran AND go with my father to catholic church. My question is simple but not. I frequently masturbate 3-4 times a week or so, recently I have come to realize it may not be looked upon favorably by god. I think alittle bit of it is addiction n I can curve that, but I find that within a week or more I feel "horny" and I am quite young so the urges are much stronger. Here is why this question is hard for me to answer tho. Firstly I am 26 and single, I do not have a current girlfriend. I like to watch muscular women flex on the internet from competitions and whatnot (I doubt that matters vs porno), but its more or less the muscle and great bodies I like to see not necessarily the obsession with the women, as I look at many before I release. Exactly what did Jesus really mean when he spoke of adultry and lust. In some cases it seems more about men lusting after women that are already married/relationship or vica versa and or more "peeping tom" like scenerios. Would it really matter also in my mind that I know I will never actually do anything to any of the women I look at? Can surfing on the internet looking at many finely toned woman lead me to hell? And how can you really define "adultry" and "lust" in the bible. I am no scholar but I GET CONCLICTING ANSWERS FROM DIFFERENT CHRISTIAN SIDES! Please help.

Answer
Hi Benjamin,

Sorry that you thought my answer was a bit rude. I was certainly not about to tickle your ears by telling you what you wanted to hear. I am sure that by now you would realise that although you said that you found the answer for yourself, you will still be struggling with the same sins you were then. If you really want to get free from this destructive habit let me know.

Blessings,

Matthew

This is not a simple thing.

Firstly, you love your sin and do not want to turn away from it.
You justify your desire to sin by comparing it to things that you think are worse sins.

Secondly, you are looking for a loop hole to let yourself off the hook. You will keep on asking other people to find the answer for you until someone tells you the answer you want to hear.

Thirdly, you think the sin is the thing that will send you to hell, but you don't realise you are already going to hell. That is why you love your sin and reject the truth.

You are right about one thing. The church you attend won't get you to heaven.

Forget about your masturbation problem for now. Find out about Jesus. If you get that sorted you will have the means to deal with your other issues. Otherwise you may appease your conscience about your lust problem, but you will not experience eternal life.

Blessings,

Matthew.
