QuestionHello there, I come to you in a bit of a rut – quite an important one! My fiancé and I got engaged almost 6 months ago, and for about 5 months now I have been suffering with anxiety attacks. I have been to see a concellor and been diagnosed with what is called General Anxiety Disorder – basically, I’m a ‘professional worrier’! My fiancé and I are both dedicated to the Lord, and have tried our hardest to carry out our relationship in the most pleasing way possible in God’s sight, and never once did I ever question my love and devotion to my fiancé. But, despite my constant prayers and my desperation, God doesn’t seem to hear my prayers for restoration and rescue, and with such a short time until our wedding day, it’s making me wonder if God doesn’t want me to marry my fiancé? However, our relationship is one that I truly thought has been blessed by God, and everyone in our church and our families think that there is no doubt that it is God’s will for us to be married and be together forever. Is this my first encounter with the devil? Is he the one making me think these awful thoughts and have these doubts? I can’t imagine myself with anyone else but my fiancé, and I don’t want to lose confidence in my faith, but I’m at my wits end! I am so desperate for my happiness and joy to be fully restored to me – I am constantly told that God loves Christian marriage, but why would he not like mine?
All advice and theological endorsement much appreciated!
Thank you,
Kirstin
AnswerGreetings, in the name of Jesus, the Christ
First of all I'm not a marriage counselor etc, nor a theologist.
The only advice I can give you at this time, is this;
It could very well be an attack of the devil and his demons, to get you to not obey God's will...for your life. Satan's main weapon is FEAR, and thats what he appears to be doing.
What I would do at this point, is to FAST and PRAY...fasting means to do without food and water for at least 3 days. If and when you brush your teeth, swish the water around to rinse but do not swallow any water.
Prayer is strongest when coming off a fast. And God seems to answer more quickly. While fasting try your best to remain in the spirit of prayer...and during the last day...ask God anything, then "Be still, and know that I am God" if you are still enought and quiet enough to be able to hear that still small voice within you,you'll have your answer. Usually the first voice you hear will be God's and the second most likely will be that of satan or one of his demons. Also make sure that what you hear lines up with God's written word.
Hope this helps
