Question
QUESTION: Hi, i was hoping you could help me answer this question on personal devotions.
"devotion makes present the sacred dimension within ordinary life. It is an outward expression of internal faith" with reference to the statement above, outline how the influence of Christian personal devotion on the life of the adherent.

If you could help me i would really appreciate it! Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Stacy,
Devotion in this context refers to regular spiritual practices (daily prayers and meditations etc) rather than to the feeling we usually refer to as devotion (one is devoted to God, to ones spouse etc).

As we invest time each day in spiritual pursuits we enter into the presence of God. This helps us maintain consciousness of God's presence in our lives. Such devotions are practiced in many different forms however the intention is the same: to invest a bit of quality time with God. To hear His Voice and to better discern His Will for our lives. The results of this can be enormous.

"Prayer is talking to God but  biblical meditation is listening to Him." Most serious devotions include time to "be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). When confronting some difficulty or decision our mind's more readily turn to God for help and direction. When we feel sad or depressed those with regular devotions tend to remember the One who loves us most and this helps us be happier, more peaceful people. With God in our lives we "smell the flowers" and give Him thanks.

Hope this helps,
