Question
Hello Ron, take you for taking your time to answer a few questions of mine. My first question is What is a Prophet and what does the prophet do? My next question is that is Jesus consider a prophet? I understand and believe that Jesus is the Son of God, meaning that He is God in the flesh so it had been struck to me since last few days. Thank again for clearing it up. God bless

Ryan

Answer
Dear Ryan,

You are welcome and hopefully I will be able to help you understand HIS WORD better!

"What is a Prophet?"
According to the Scriptures a TRUE Prophet of YHWH is one who is called by HIM to proclaim HIS TRUTH. HIS Truth being The Holy Scriptures as recorded in both The Old Testament and The New Testament. The Old Testament Prophets were called, anointed (given of HIS SPIRIT), and sent to the children of Israel to call them to repent and return to HIS Word, because they had fallen away from HIS Torah (the first 5 books of the bible), which resulted in them involving themselves in practices that HIS WORD condemns. Practices like paganism, idolatry, sexual immorality, lying, cheating, stealing, murdering, etc. These things are in opposition to HIS Commandments. So GOD would send a prophet to them to proclaim their sin and call them to repent of it before it was too late.

In the New Testament, there is really no difference in the ministry of the prophet. He or she (a prophetess Acts 21:9) is called, anointed with HIS SPIRIT, and empowered to call GOD'S people back to the Truth of HIS WORD (Old & New Testaments Scriptures). However, one can prophesy without having the life long calling of A Prophet because GOD has poured out HIS SPIRIT in these last days and will gift HIS people as HE sees fit! (Read Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 12-14, Ephesians 4 and Romans 12 to gain a better understanding)

In answer to your second question; "Is Jesus considered a prophet?"
Lets look at the Scriptures first.
Rev 19:10
(10)  Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he *said to me, "Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

Though the SPIRIT that dwells within and upon JESUS is the same SPIRIT that indwells New Covenant believers and would empower and anoint a person to fulfill the ministry of a prophet of GOD, there is a drastic difference between the two. For example in the case of JESUS having the SPIRIT, it is written;
Joh 3:34-35
(34)  "For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure.
(35)  "The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.
Notice that HIS SPIRIT is given to JESUS without measure. Your confession that JESUS is "GOD in the flesh" is an accurate one!

Whereas in comparison to us, it is written;
Rom 12:6
(6)  Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;
Notice that there is a differing degree of grace (the work of HIS SPIRIT) given to us in proportion to the degree of our capacity to believe GOD and HIS WORD. Also as believers, we are considered sons of GOD, NOT GOD, the sons...

So, as we believe HIS WORD and allow HIM to change us as HE sees fit, HE may call, anoint and empower us to be used in HIS plan! HE may gift us with the calling of a prophet. OR, HE may just choose to use to us to prophesy from time to time as HE sees fit. In either event, it will be proven whether or not we are speaking for HIM by every word being measured in accordance to HIS WORD! False prophets do not speak in complete accordance with HIS WORD. They might use a part of it, but if you listen closely and have a knowledge of GOD'S WORD, you will be able to tell whether they speak as sent by HIM OR whether they speak by their own power!

May you be blessed in HIS TRUTH as you seek to walk as JESUS walked (1 John 2:6), in accordance with HIS Commandments, HIS Statutes, HIS Ordinances, HIS WORD!

Sincerely,
Pastor Ron
