Christianity -- Christian Living/prophet vs Christian psychic
Expert: Kit Goins - 6/25/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Please let me know what you can about this; opinion or otherwise. Is it possible for a Christian to be a psychic. I don't mean in the 24-hour psychic hotline kind, but a Christian who has or can have "abilities". I have always felt I could be a bit of a psychic but never developed or looked into further the ability, and now my daughter has begun to feel the same way about herself. She is 15.5 and I am 37.5. Could it be that God has called us to be prophets (as in 1st Cor 12:28&31)? If we are taught to not seek out psychics, we would refrain from developing and using the gift God has given us; thinking instead that it was an abomination. Not to tell all, but to give you an idea: I have given messages in tongues to the church and have interpreted. I have received messages from God to others that I found later were true and came to pass. I used to have dreams over and over. I used to have deja-vu a lot when I was younger. Now my daughter seems to be going through the same process. She has dreams and deja-vu. Except, sometimes right after things happen, she knew it was going to just before it did. I know it sounds like foresight, but without developing the gift/ability, this might be how it is working now. Again, let me know what you think. Thanks.
ANSWER: Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus,
Please forgive me for taking so long to answer your question,as I assumed I had already answered it upon
the first time getting the notice, but I guess I didn't.
First of all let me clarify something...
There is a verse or two..in God's word, that defines witchcraft: (being psychic is a form of witchcraft)
(witchcraft)
occurs 3 times in 3 verses in the KJV
1Sa 15:23 For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king.
2Ch 33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
The apostle Paul tells us to:
"desire spiritual [gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy." 1 corinthians 14:1
Prophecy is not telling the future...it IS to edify the church (v 4), is for believers, NOT unbelievers (v 22)
and is given for edification, exhortation and comfort (v 3).
there is also called "word of knowledge"...
It is a revelation by the Holy Spirit to the inner man of something that may not be learned by the senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch or smell)It is not a psychic experience. It is a word from the Lord about something that is usually a present, but unknown reality. The word can come like a soft voice within us...or it can activate the senses.
and a "word of wisdom"
Solomon had heightened intelligence and common sense to make wise decisions. This is wisdom. But the word of wisdom goes beyond and provides specific glimpse of the future.
I hope this helps

QUESTION: I'm sorry, but your reply brings more questions. Please give me your definition of witchcraft. To me, it's when people cast spells and such things - satanic worship, animal sacrifice, etc.
The first scripture you gave does not define witchcraft, but only says "rebellion is /as\ the sin" "of witchcraft". I'd say that it means the sin of rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft -- in which case, means sin is sin. I see no other similarity in the two.
In the second scripture, I don't mean to minimize the seriousness, but it seems that God was mad that Mannaseh was looking elsewhere than to Him for help and guidance -- not SO much that he was doing the silly acts.
The third scripture begins a list of sins of the flesh for which if committed (without forgiveness/repentance) the one doing it will not inherit the Kingdom. That is simple enough. Again, this begs a definition of witchcraft.
I hope you understand my questioning. Witchcraft seemed like an easy subject before. But now that my daughter and I have close questions, it's not. What do you think about people who have abilities, without asking for them, and still don't "practice" them? What about them? It is not their choice. I know of a lady who, after being struck by lightening while pregnant, became psychic. I can't say she didn't ask for it, but I'm pretty sure she didn't. I'm not sure if she saw the future or did horoscopes (I really don't think so), but she has helped the police solve a lot of crimes by her "visions".
My point in asking is because I am still confused about prophecy versus psychic. I understand the word of knowledge (doesn't everybody have that?). Do you think God endows some with the word wisdom, but not others? If it is a gift, I understand that some may have it and some not. But what about going "beyond and providing specific glimpse of the future"? Please explain. What does wisdom and the future have to do with each other?
Back to a previous question... According to my first message, what would you say is going on with my daughter and myself? I am saved (since 1994 or 1982 depending on your definition), sanctified, and spirit-filled (since April 1996), so I am not so much a babe in Christ. I am not being drawn away from the Lord. I just can not explain this. What is it and why does it happen? I did not ask for it. I've ignored it for Years, but things happen every now and then as if only to remind me that I still have the ability/gift.
I am more curious because of what has been going on with my daughter recently. Her welfare is much more important to me than mine. In the past month, I could see that God was doing something in her/dealing with her. She attended camp this past weekend (Wed-Sun) and experienced God in a way she never has before. She's seen God work in others, but she really got into His presence herself. I think she had her first experience with "praying through". I was not there, but what she told me sounds like my salvation experience. She's been saved and baptized since she was 2.5 (if you believe that's not too early). During one service at camp, she was told that she would minister to others just by being the person she is. The light in her would attract others and bring them to Jesus. So, all this considered, why would she be noticing these "psychic abilities" right before the church camp experiences? It would seem to me to tie in together.
You know, it's not for us to explain how God works, just that He does. It seems like He's just pouring Himself all over her -- and all at once. I praise Him for it, but because some would see the "abilities" she and I seem to have to be witchcraft and that either: scares me; because we are His children and that shouldn't be possible, angers me; because people must be ignorant of this issue, or thrills me; because He may have chosen us for a special work -- even though we haven't figured it out yet.
Let me know what you think.
AnswerHello,
I'm sorry for the confusion you have for the answers I gave.
All I wanted to show in those three verses was that it was mentioned three times in God's word (KJV)...and that brings me to ask you what version you either read from or study?
I consider the KJV to be the only most accurate english version, and only study from it alone, along with a Strongs Exhaustive Concordance with greek and hebrew dictionary...and a Smiths Bible dictionary. I consider all other versions to be tools of satan and perverted.
As for Mannaseh looking elsewhere for help and guidance,
instead of to God...you must understand that foretelling the future, as in what fortune tellers do...in the sense of horoscopes etc....is a form of and/or comes from the art of witchcraft; along with reading tea leaves, card reading, etc. and God forbids it, as it is written.
I believe I was pretty plain and clear in helping you understand between the both. Describing what prophecy is, and in this way whatever isn't, is witchcraft (casting spells, satanic worship, animal sacrifice, and fortune telling etc). So I must tell you this;
satan is the author of lies and confusion. So I tend to believe it is he that is causing your confusion and not I. Its almost as if you are wanting permission to do something you know is not of God. Forgive me if that is not true.
As for your daughter, being saved at 2.5..is totally unlikely...first of all she is not aware, or able to fully understand what she is doing at that very young age.
So I want you to thin about this; that whenever God wants to do something special in and through us, satan and/or his demons always do what they can to disrupt it, or challenge it, or kill it, steal it...etc from us.
You continually wish to use the word "psychic"...WHY?
As for her being told she would minister to others just by being the person she is...this is true only in the sense of physically acting as a sincere christian would normally.
In other words walking the walk and not just talking about it.
Tell you what. Do this. Pray and ask God to reveal to you something about me, that only He would know. And tell me what He told you that is. My real email is:
kompukit@gmail.com In this way...I will know for sure from whom you are receiving from. If you feel both of you has this ability or gift (as you say) then both of you hold hands while praying along these lines.
