Question
QUESTION: hi, i have a question about somethin that recently happened. ive been a christian for awhile now. ive obvousely had my ups and downs like everyone else. i never really believed in prophecying or speaking in toungues until the other day when i visited this church. and i went to a mens retreat with them. doing the mens retreat this pastour came out and was giving us bible studies, which i was thought was really cool . then afterwards he said he was going to do some prohycying, first he explained what it was and said basically hes going to tap in into the holy spirit and have God work throught him . i wasnt exactly sure what that was, but he went indivdually around the room and told each person what God wanted to tell them. i was the second guy he went to and he told me things thats been really stirring around in my heart for awhile. and told me that the seasons changing for me. and some other things. a few things i didnt quite understand how it ties in wit my life but for the most part he was rite on.
my questions are as follows
1. can anyone attain that ability? i mean it seems like a pretty big responsibility.
2. how do you know if its the real deal
3.  afterwards i told myself , if that doesnt make a believer outta someone then i dont know what will.  why dont all churched reconize this gift? i used to go this nondenominational church growing up and they always used to tell me that all that kinda stuff stopped happening a long time ago, like in the time of christ. if it brings more people closer to God then why isnt it more common to see that?
4.what bible passages can i go to thatll support this ? what good argument can i give someone preferable a christian who doesnt believe in this?
5. if you dont speak in toungues or go to a church that believes in prophetic ministry in your opinion do you belive they will be saved, even if they believe in jesus christ and try to live a life parrallel to him? becuase i have heard that they wont be. i dont agree with it though.
7.physics vs prophets  where are the physics( i dont know how to spell that)there those people where you go to and they look into there crystal ball and they tell you the future. ive never been to one and will never  go to one, but whats there source?
8. this is a silly question. can someone prophecy to someone else throught the computer like online or something?? just a thought.
6.... Gods awsome.... i guess those are all the questions i have.  sorry for making it too long

THANKS, God bless

ANSWER: Greetings, in the name of Jesus, the Christ...

First of all, let me ask you which church this was you went to?
Second, from which version of God's word did they study/read from?

Now (without knowing the above two answers) to answer your questions...

1. yes and no. you see there are actually two different(but similar offices of a prophet) One, is to hear audibly from God concerning a thing or people or group...and thereafter  speak what thus saith God to His people.  Second, is the clear concise teaching of His word (written) what thus saith God. on a particular subject, topic etc. And by this, I do not mean teachers. and YES, it is a huge responsibility, and therefore God, in the end, will harshly judge those who do it falsely. And/or claiming to be of and from God.

2. you can know by only one thing...DOES IT LINE UP WITH THE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD?

3. First of all it is not a GIFT...but a special "calling".
why dont all churched reconize this gift? because they are only believing in what THEY wish to know as the truth.
and also they have been mislead by satan. NO it has not stopped today...contrary to what is being taught. The reason it has stopped (in their minds) is because they have no FAITH to believe it can. thus the teaching in God's word:
"IF YOU CAN BELIEVE, SO BE IT".  This is one of the reasons the church is so split apart...satan is using his tools to cause division amongst the whole body of christ (the church).

4.Do not try to pressure a belief on anyone...it is God's Holy Spirit that does the teaching...not you. It will be given him/her in due time, when they are ready to receive.
study the book of ACTS.

5. yes, they will be saved IF they are truly and genuinely saved, the correct way, as taught in God's word. They will only be missing out on all that God has for them.

6. (you missed this number)

7. PHYSICS, source is either the devil himself...or one of his demons.

8. I would consider that, to be placing God in a box...that He can ONLY do it one way...and thats all. I refuse to do that...therefore the teaching in God's word; "ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD"

Hope this helps

QUESTION: the name of the the church i wentto was called freedom fellowship. we were reading from the NIV and sometimes the king james. thanks for responding.
i have some other questions about speaking in toungues. im kinda comfused about the wholething. could that be dangerous. i was talking to a minister of a church of like 25 years and he told me a story about how he went to a pentcostal church to preach and  everyone started speaking in toungues durring fellowship. everyone was speaking in toungues expcept for this one man. another man a few rows down from him was  speaking portuguese( he did know this becuase he was speaking in toungues) well the man who was praising the lord quitely actually spoke portuguese and relized that the man who was supposedly speaking in toungues was saying bad things about GOd. and the man who reconized this ran up on stage and started yelling at him and there was this spiritual battle going on as each attempted to outyell eachother, the deacons of the church took the man who was speakin in toungues in portuguese outside and asked him if he knew what he was saying, and told him all teh the nasty things he said about to the lord.the man in question told themm that he had no idea what he was saying.
was that clear? i hope i didnt confuse you . if someone doesnt know what there saying to God while there speaking couldnt that be dangerouse. ? ive read before that when your in your room and you want to start speaking in toungues you should aak the lord out loud for help. i know God is the only one who can read our thoughts but if we say it out load couldnt satan or a demon see that as an oppurtunity to blassphem the Lord ?? some told me this the other day and it really made to start to think . is speaking in toungues just a babble, or an actually language, an language of today or 2000 years ago that doesnt even exist anymore?
are there any books are sites i can go to, to learn more about speaking in toungues?
thanks again. i hope im making sence.
God bless

Answer
Greetings again...
Can you please be more precise as the to where the freedom fellowship church is...does it have a website etc.

You mentioned that you were reading from the NIV mostly....

I must warn you about reading from or even studying from any other version than the KJV King James version...

The NIV has left out whole passages and sentences completely. And has also left out content that is needed to
more fully understand God's plan for man...and certain other truths, concerning prayer and fasting etc.  I've learned that the NIV was written NOT by men of God inspired by the Holy Spirit, but some were actually homosexuals.

Finally, as far as speaking in other tongues goes...to be honest with you, I have not had this experience as yet, and therefore can not, nor will not judge it in any way, shape or form....until I do.

I will say this however...I lived down near Pensacola Florida...and it was about the time when a certain church there; called: Brownsville Assembly of God Church...and one other in Canada of the same denomination...were in the news bigtime for their so-called MOVE OF GOD'S SPIRIT...with them claiming to be "speaking in other tongues" and other manifestations of God.  Well, My sister, her two children and I (out of curiousty), went to one of their church meetings, this was at night.  When I walked in, i got a terrible feeling in my stomach that something was just not right...and what i saw...was downright not of God at all.
You see, the church was circular in shape, there was an outer hallway going fully around the outside of the center
pews where the main room was for preaching etc. What was going on in that circular hallway, was right out of the bible...there was tables placed end to end and they were selling everything from t-shirts to bibles, plates, CD's of actual sermons, DVDs...etc etc it was like a shopping mall.
If Jesus has seen this, He would of turned over the tables again as he did so in the bible...whipping them and yelling get out of my Fathers house.

That was just in the hallways, I wanted to leave just then, but I said let's see what this is about...let's give it a chance. When we got to our chairs...I looked around and saw musical instruments and TV cameras all around, it sort of looked more like a concert then a church meeting.  Then I began looking around the big main room to the seats on the floor (we were upstairs) I saw groups of people some groups were teens, other were mixed...but they were doing the same thing...what they were doing was rocking back and forth in their chairs...looking as if they were chanting something.
They kept doing it...over and over.

I looked at my niece and nephew...and they were acting scared...so i asked them if they were ...and they said yes.

Right then and there I got up...and said let's go...this is not of God.

I reasoned that the God I knew and loved would never ever scare a child....no matter what. I've never been back to that church...and every chance I get, I tell others about my experience there.

I will leave your decision now...with you...based on what I saw....and hope this has helped in some way.

Please do not misunderstand me here...I truly believe in speaking in other tongues...but to define it without myself experiencing it...I can not.  I've been reading a book recently, written by: Pat Robertson,  called: "MIRACLES can be yours today"  in his book he describes that he encountered  this experience and described it as "speaking in a known language, just not one that you have been taught in,and have no knowledge of speaking"...so this will have to define it for me, as well right now also.

Expertise

My main expertise is in Prophecy. I have a B.A. degree in Religion and Church Ministry from a school for Prophets, out of Jacksonville, Florida. I am also quite versed in the Bible as a whole. I am a non-denominational Christian, due to my belief that God never meant for different denominations... there is ONLY one religion (as the word of God says). I consider this to be an excellant way to witness the glory of God to others, and to further His Kingdom, and purposes...before the soon return of His Son, Jesus.
