QuestionWas David and Jonathan Gay? How does their relationship relate to the movie "Brokeback Mountain"?
AnswerM. Britt,
There is no indication in Scripture that either David or Jonathan were homosexuals or bi-sexual. Scripture indicates a healthy relationship between two men that was expressed in loving terms in Scripture. There is no indication that these men had any type of love that would be frowned upon by God.
Scripture speaks very clearly against "men with men" sexual relationships, as well as women with women sexual relationships. God does not endorse sexual sin, nor any other kind of sin.
The type of love that David and Jonathan had was a healthy and godly relationship between two men. One, the son of the king, and the other, the one destined for the throne.
There are websites (as well as other media) that promote the idea of David and Jonathan as homosexual or bi-sexual, but they misquote and distort Scripture in order to do so. They refuse to accept any understanding of Scripture that doesn't promote their pro-homosexual view. This is the trend in society today, to rewrite anything that suggests a wholesome love and make it a lustful type of love. This is something that Satan is known for. He is the father of all lies.
As far as the movie "Brokeback Mountain", I haven't a clue, as I refuse to even pay to see a movie like this. It had a lot of hype to promote it among the media, but doesn't get my support.
Let me be quick to add to my comments: There are many people that have bought the lies of Satan about homosexuality. They have been deceived into believing that it is a healthy lifestyle. Some, that have been thus deceived, have placed their faith in Christ for salvation and are saved by Grace through Faith, and have Eternal Life. Many of them have even failed to follow the Lord in His teachings on human sexuality, and have fallen into the trap of being sexually impure. God calls those who are spiritual to restore those who have thus fallen, or that have been overcome by any other temptations. He does not call us to hate them nor to condemn them. He calls us to have a true love (not lust) for them. Many of them have not yet come to faith in Christ, and it should be our desire to share our faith with them.
God's ultimate desire concerning human sexuality as spelled out in Scripture, is that it be expressed in a procreating way between one man and one woman who have become one flesh in a marriage relationship. Any other means of expressing human sexuality is outside of God's clear direction, as given in Scripture.
