Christianity--Church History - Josephus

Expert: Dean Gade - 10/27/2009

Question
Mr. Gade,
Evidently my son's teacher is also looking into this. Yesterday in class, before I had a chance to submit my response to him using Josephus' writings as an example, he stated to my son's class that Josephus' statements are considered suspect due to evidence of history tampering.  Do you have any idea what he is talking about?

Answer
I have heard this before but neither I nor anyone who is opposed to Jesus can in any way prove what we believe.  In my university undergraduate studies heard of and read many scholars who tried to disprove the Bible itself. Their motives are as suspect as their conclusions.

We, who follow the Son of God, can only witness to what God has done in our lives.  Some will accept and rejoice over what they hear while others will reject the truth to preserve their ego and lifestyle.

2 Co 4:2-4
3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
NIV

Jn 10:24-27
24 The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."

25 Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe . The miracles I do in my Father's name speak for me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
NIV

2 Co 2:14-16

14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 15 For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.
NIV
