Question
How has Christianity a faith based on the teaching of one text, the bible, divided into so many denominations

Answer
Basically, the divisions occur because of various individual and group interpretations of that one text.

The various interpretation can be caused by personal bias, levels of spiritual maturity and/or ignorance of the text as one unified message.

My answer is just a basic summary of the causes for the many denominations.  If you would like to know more about any one of them please write again and I'll go into greater detail of any or all of them.
