Question
What is iconoclastic all about? and How does the Christian view of the scriptural story of  God working through the people of Israel differ from the Jewish view?

Answer
An iconoclast is one who wishes to destroy the religious items (icons) venerated by a group.

There are about as many "denominations" among Jews as among Christians.  With all the varying views of both Jews and Christians, it would be impossible to accurately tell the difference of their views of what Scripture is saying about God working through people.

As one who believes that the Scripture IS the word of God, inspired by Him through holy men, my view is that God chose Abraham and his descendents to be the keepers of His word until the Messiah came.  At that time the message of His redemption of the world through the vicarious atonement of the Messiah was to be proclaimed to all the people's of the earth.

I cannot speak for all those who call themselves Christians or Jews and their various views .  These views go to the extremes of not even accepting that there is a personal God to claiming to be the only ones who can define or believe in God.
