QuestionWho are sinners, is dipping snuff a sin, the bed being undefiled-does this means oral sex is ok for married couples? Please give scriptures for all your answers. Thank you so much for helping.
AnswerAll people are sinners and deserve only the wrath of God.
However, some of us have put our faith in God and His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. But even we still sin in the sense of still erring against the Law given through Moses. If we persist in knowingly breaking God's law, we are in danger of falling away from God by our abstinence.
The above are prefaces/definitions for your question.
We Christians have a great amount of freedom in our new life in Christ. The Law given through Moses can no longer condemn us but it is still a guideline to the will of God in our lives.....in order to have the abundant life which God wishes for us and empowers us to have.
The two passages which sum up the answers to your question are:
1 Cor 6:12-13
12 "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.
RSV
1 Cor 4:6
6 Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written."
NIV
Notice: ALL THINGS are lawful for us. The only restriction is that we do not do things which will "enslave", that is, make us captive to anything but God. True, most people would rather have EXACT rules to live by than have to seek God's will daily and throughout our lives as to whether our actions and activities are in or out of the will of God.
But that IS our freedom.
The second verse summarizes many others which tell us that God has given certain rules which tell us what His general will is. We call them the 10 Commandments. They were given for the primary purpose of showing all people that they have no reason to pride themselves over anyone else. We have all failed to be perfect.
Again, for Christians (who have the demands of the Law fulfilled in Jesus Christ) who are always seeking to do the will of God, they are now a guide to a holy life AND WE ARE NOT TO GO BEYOND THAT UNDERSTANDING by parsing all kinds of NEW laws for our lives or those of others and using these "new or expanded laws to condemn either ourselves or others.
So, you must subject all your questions whether each thing you are considering doing is a sin to "what is the will of God in each of these instances". We have the summary of all God's will in "Love God above all things and love your neighbor as you love yourself." Measure all things according to this Law of Liberty.
By the way, if anything bothers your conscience; don't do it. Jesus died to also give us a clean conscience.
