QuestionMy friend come to me and told me she was gay. Am I in the wrong in God's eyes for still being her friend and strictly nothing but friends. I've been told that i am. I need advise. Please. Thank you
AnswerHi Candace,
Thank you for this great question. I am so very sorry that my response is so late! Let me start by being very clear, homosexuality is wrong. It is a sin and it is a choice. God hates the sin but loves the sinner. Jesus died for this sin too.
Romans 1:26–27 (AV)
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
With this in mind, we now need to understand what Jesus did. Jesus never condoned sin, but he was known as a friend of sinners. Jesus knew that the only way hope that these poor souls had was if someone loved them in spite of their sin and reached out with the truth of the Gospel.
Matthew 9:10–12 (AV)
10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? 12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
The one caution I would give you is do not compromise on Bible truth. Your friend needs to know that the Bible says that it is wrong and that you do not agree with her choice, but that you will love her anyway. You are doing her more harm than good if you gloss over the fact that she is sinning with this choice of hers. If you can for now simply agree to disagree, then you have a chance to reach her later.
I hope that this helps you.
In Christ
