Christianity --Youth Issues/Homosexuality
Expert: Carl Fuglein - 2/5/2008
QuestionFor years I have been struggling with the issue of whether or not I can be saved since I'm bi. I know the bible says that its a sin but does that mean even though I love God and did the whole saying the pray to become saved does that mean I'm still going to hell. I tried talking to my father who supposed to be a Godly man, but he just goes off saying gay people are hated by God and no matter what they are going to hell. Which makes me question if God still loves me because I'm bi. Can God still love me and am I stilled saved by his grace?

You're already saved, it's not a debatable issue. You believe that Jesus died for your sin, it's a done deal.
The Bible does NOT say that being bi or homosexual is a sin. What the Bible says is that practicing homosexual sex is a sin. There is a difference. You can't help who you are, but you can choose who you have sex with. God made you the way you are, and God loves you the way you are. But God also doesn't want you to have sex with a person of the same sex. I can't explain why God would give you feelings for the same sex. I also can't explain why God makes me, a heterosexual married man, have lustful thoughts about women that I am not married to and can never have. It's unexplainable.
What CAN be explained, however, is that God gave us a way out, and you've taken it - you've accepted the fact that Christ died for your sin. My belief is that even with the feelings you have, you should not have sex with another girl. You should also not have sex with a guy until you marry him, either. And if we take a strict interpretation of the Bible, we shouldn't even think about either (lust in your heart). But we're human, we're going to sin - we just need to try harder each day not to sin.
May I suggest that you read the following:

This letter was written many years ago BEFORE there was so much controversy about homosexuality. The guy that wrote is still alive, in his 90's. Although I don't agree with him, it is the most compelling argument I've ever read for accepting homosexual behavior as NOT sinful.
I'm sorry that your dad said that God hates gay people. I know that's not true. He loves all of us equally.
