Question Madam,
Two days before yesterday, a friend used “dammit” in her correspondence with me while we were discussing a political issue and she was defying my voting (or views in favor) to a particular party. I was more shocked by the force of her usage because basically she is very religious girl and in deep studies with Bible. When I asked her to explain the reason of using that profane word, she once again vehemently refused the charge of “using profane” term as she does not think “Damn It” falls under profane category. She assured me even in “Holy Bible” one can find or detect using these kinds of terms here and there. Is that so? What I wish to know from you whether there is a certain mention in Bible or Holy Scripture where words can or cannot be termed as “profane” or “blaspheme”? Or whether there is or isn’t difference between profanity and blasphemy according to teaching of Bible?
Let me admit here that I belong to Hindu religion, yet I study Christianity.

Answer "Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk (ever) come out of your mouth, but only such (speech) as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God's favor) to those who hear it".
(Ephesians 4:29 AMP).
Is "damn it" swearing? Yes it is. It is swearing an oath to damn someone or something to hell.
Unfortunately not all Christians are "Christ-like" in all our behaviour. That is why we are encouraged to keep our focus on Jesus. Christians are warned not to be a stumbling block and as above, to let no unwholesome word come out of our mouths.
I hope this helps. If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know.
