Question
Hey, my name's Samie and I have a problem. I just graduated high school. I attended a Baptist private middle school and for two years I lived in Christ, then when I left the school, I also left religion.

Once you've been saved, I believe the feeling and knowledge of good's love never goes away. However since I wasn't in a Religious environment I encountered some difficult family issues and developed bulimia. Not only did I turn away from Christ during tough times, I got angry with him, but as my therapist has said "God wasn't the one shoving fingers down my troat."

Things in my life have turned out too perfectly for me not to believe that God has a special plan for my life. Its just soo hard to find the right path. Deep down inside I believe that I have bulimia because somehow God wants me to overcome it and maybe help others, who knows. I believe my life has a purpose but Im also scared that I will die before I will be able to fulfill it.

I want a connection with God so badly, but I'm scared that after all this time he won't want to listen to me. I feel incredibly alone and I don't know what to do. Im scared to go to church by myself and none of my friends or family will go with me. What do I do?

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Samie-

Bulimia is a serious issue, and I'm glad that you're getting help for that.  I'm not trained well enough to give you advice there, and it's up to your therapist to help they physical/emotional issue with that.

As for your spiritual issue, God will never forsake you, He will always forgive you.  You said you didn't think that God would want to listen to you - WRONG!  He very much wants you to talk to Him and let Him know of your fears and hopes and desires.  As for going to church alone - you're not - you're going to church with God at your side.  If you don't have a church  - church shop - keep trying new churches until you find one where a friendly person or two or three talk to you, or go during the week and talk with a pastor about what programs they have for young adults.  It's unfortunate, because many churches have none, but keep trying, and you will find people that you like and make some new friends.

Hope this helps,

Carl
